Sourav Ganguly was named as the first Castrol Asian Cricketer of the Year for 2007

Ganguly has enjoyed an impressive run of form since being recalled to the Indian ranks during the South African tour of 2006/07.

During 2007, "The Prince of Kolkata" notched some memorable performances, with his outstanding display being the 239 he registered against Pakistan at Bangalore in December.

Not surprisingly, Ganguly also received the overall Castrol Asian Batsman of the Year Award.

The Castrol Asian Bowler of the Year Award was won by Sri Lankan spin wizard Muthiah Muralitharan, who also entered the record book in 2007 when he became the leading wicket taker in Test matches.

The Castrol Asian Wicket Keeper /Fielder of the Year awards was bagged by Kamran Akmal.

The Castrol Asian Awards are based on the Castrol Performance Index - a comprehensive points system which, during a calendar year, takes into consideration each player's batting, bowling and fielding performances in all international matches, and across all three cricketing formats - Test, ODIs and T20, during a calendar year.

There were also awards for the Castrol Asian Batsmen and Bowler in Test Cricket - Kumar Sangakkara and Muthiah Muralitharan; Castrol Asian Batsman and Bowler in ODIs - Sachin Tendulkar and P Maharoof and Castrol Asian Batsman and Bowler in T20 - Gautam Gambhir and Umar Gul.

A special award was also given away to Yuvraj Singh for his world record haul of six sixes in an over of T20 cricket.
