India colts to tour Manchester

Following their successful trip to the US in July, the India under-16 team will now travel to Wayne Rooney's land.

The junior team has received an invitation from Manchester United to train and play two practice matches there next month.

The colts, who qualified for the main round of the AFC Under-16 Championship to be held in Uzbekistan in October, will make use of Manchester United's training facilities during their nine-day stay.

"We leave Mumbai on September 1 and return on September 11," said Colin Toal, the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) technical director and in charge of the under-16 squad.

During their stay, the team would avail the training facilities at Manchester University and meet the under-16 academy teams of Everton on September 4 and Manchester United five days later.

"This will be a continuation of the process we started 15 months back," Toal told PTI on Friday from Goa.

"Everton and Manchester United have some of the best academies and playing against their junior teams will only improve the boys' confidence," he added.

India, who are in Group B, begin their campaign in the AFC Under-16 Championship against South Korea on October 4. They meet Syria two days later and Indonesia on October 8.
